TEA STATIONS
London, UK, 2009

The Tea Stations are a series of interventions inserted into the city of London, connected through their proximity to waterways and their constructed proportions.  The stations are an alternative proposal to the traditional tea shops as seen throughout London.

TEA STATION 01 is located along Regent’s Canal and City Road Basin.  It is an expression of its structure, cantilevering out over Regent’s Canal like a boating dock, while maintaining the proportions of a shipping container.  Clad in a structural glass system, the Tea Station maximizes views and allows for maximum transparency, showcasing the steel structure for all passing by the Canal.

TEA STATION 02 is situated on a flat, open piece of land in the East India Basin overlooking the River Thames.  The station is fashioned from a repurposed shipping container that is suspended and attached to a decommissioned tower crane.  The existing tower crane mast has been retrofitted with an elevator, which transports patrons up to the tea station.  The repurposed shipping container walls have been modified into operable panels.  When the panels are open, it creates an open air structure with amplified views overlooking the River Thames.
